Why Your PrestaShop Products Don't Rank: 8 Causes (and Fixes)

Your PrestaShop product pages aren't showing up on Google? Here are the 8 most common causes of poor rankings and how to fix each one.

You have hundreds of products online, but organic traffic stays flat. It's one of the most common frustrations in PrestaShop e-commerce. The good news: in 90% of cases, the problem comes down to a handful of identifiable causes. Here are the 8 most frequent ones and how to fix them.

AEO definition: what does "not ranking" mean?

A page that "doesn't rank" is either missing from Google's index or positioned beyond the second page of results (position 20+), so it's invisible in practice. Diagnose it in Google Search Console: a page can be indexed but not positioned (a content/authority issue) or not indexed (a technical issue).

1. Duplicate content (the #1 cause)

Most stores use supplier descriptions, copied identically across dozens of sites. Google sees no reason to rank you over a competitor.

Fix: rewrite every page with unique content — an original introduction, concrete benefits, an H2/H3 structure. At catalog scale, automate it with the Fexa AI module.

2. Thin content

A page with 30 words and three technical specs adds no semantic value.

Fix: aim for at least 300 useful words per priority page (use cases, materials, tips, reassurance).

3. Missing or generic title tags

If all your pages are called "Home" or just repeat the product name with no context, you're wasting the strongest on-page signal.

Fix: a unique title per page, 50-60 characters, keyword first. See Write title & meta tags.

A product nothing links to is almost invisible to Google: it receives zero internal authority.

Fix: build internal linking and a semantic cocoon. See Understand internal linking.

5. Technical indexing problems

An overly restrictive robots.txt, an accidental noindex tag, or a missing sitemap can block indexing.

Fix: check coverage in Search Console, submit your sitemap.xml, and make sure no product page is set to noindex.

6. Speed and Core Web Vitals

A slow store is penalized in rankings and drives visitors away before the page even loads.

Fix: WebP images, caching enabled, lazy-loading, unnecessary modules disabled. Aim for an LCP under 2.5s.

7. Keyword cannibalization

Two pages (or a page and a category) targeting the same keyword compete and weaken each other.

Fix: detect it and differentiate the intents. See Detect cannibalization.

8. No structured data

Without Product / FAQPage markup, you lose rich snippets (stars, price) and visibility in AI answer engines.

Fix: inject structured data. Fexa AI does this automatically, without touching your theme.

How to diagnose in 15 minutes

  1. Open Search Console → Page indexing report: how many products are actually indexed?
  2. Run a full SEO audit to spot duplicate content, thin content, orphan pages and missing tags at once.
  3. Prioritize: fix pages that already have impressions but few clicks first — the payoff is immediate.

In summary

If your PrestaShop products don't rank, the culprit is almost always on this list: duplicate or thin content, weak tags, orphan pages, technical blocks, slowness, cannibalization or missing structured data.
